On this episode of The First Close, we interview Lolita Taub, founding partner and solo GP at Ganas Ventures. Ganas Ventures is a traditional 506(c) fund that aims to invest in “community-driven startups in the U.S. and Latin America.”
Lolita and I first met over dinner with other emerging managers in her hometown, Los Angeles. Lolita is proud to have grown up in South Central LA. When you meet Lolita, you’re quickly drawn in by her enthusiasm for connecting with people. It’s a trait that’s served her well in her journey to becoming a solo GP.
Lolita’s VC journey started as the host of The F SHOW, a YouTube interview series focused on female millennial entrepreneurs. Through her work on the show, Lolita interviewed 100 women founders from around the world. Through these interviews, she developed a strong network of incredible women entrepreneurs who were building businesses that could grow wildly—if only they could overcome obstacles to raising capital.
Before launching her fund, Lolita was a principal at Backstage Capital, co-founder of The Community Fund VC, VP of Corporate Development at Catalyte, a partner at NexGen Venture Partners, and, of course, a limited partner. It’s safe to say that Lolita has held almost every type of job within VC.
In this episode, we discussed what Lolita looks for in founders she’s investing in, the one thing that she believes every emerging manager should know before they start fundraising, and why she believes the face of VC is rapidly changing.
